I am an information junkie. My mother prefers to call this "a curious nature". Whatever it is, I dig the info. This makes podcasts an amazing and wonderful thing. I can plug in the ipod and listen to people talk about just about anything. I am happy as a pig in mud. Whoever invented the podcast, thanks bunches. Usually I go to itunes and search the podcast section, but one day I was following links from a blog and stumbled upon Lip Gloss and Laptops.
Lip Gloss and Laptops is a podcast about beauty products and the beauty industry hosted by Airdrie and Kerry Anne who live in Canada. Those of you who know me well are now wondering why hippie/earth mother/treehugger Holly, who rarely wears makeup, is listening to a podcast about makeup? I'll tell you, I've wondered that myself, but honestly, it's entertaining. I do occasionally wear make-up and I have to confess that make-up counters fascinate me. It's rather like browsing Dick Blick for art supplies. I might not know exactly how to use them, but I'm still interested. Airdrie (don't you love that name?) and Kerry Anne do such a wonderful job making each product they talk about interesting and they do it simply by being themselves. Their voices have just a touch a Canada, which I love since it reminds me of northern Minnesota, and it's obvious that they are friends and have a great deal of affection for each other. Listening to them is a pleasure and the podcast reminds me that being a girl can be fun.
So, I decide that people ought to know when they are doing a good job and I write them an email letting them know that I listen and that I appreciate the time they take. I expect that it will find it's way into a very full mailbox and it might get read next week....or year. Well, guess what? Later that day I got replies back from both of them. I have to admit that I was very impressed and pleased. I felt sort of like a dorky fan that got a reply back from a celebrity, and you know, that isn't such a bad thing. Ah, the wonder of the internets. They get my Five Star/2 thumbs up/fresh tomato recommendation for being exactly what a pocast should be. You really should give Lip Gloss and Laptops a listen.
In health news we are seeing light at the end of the pneumonia tunnel. Yesterdays doc exam showed great improvement and I have been loosed upon the world. I still get tired quickly, but I can breathe and that is a very good thing. Today I am going to the library all by myself! Life is good. A million thanks to everyone for their well wishes and support.
Update!: I just finished listening to this weeks Lip Gloss and Laptops podcast and the ladies gave me a nice shout out that included my blog address. To any of you who are visiting because they heard that podcast, welcome!
