Pictured above is Tinker Swiss Cottage, a lovely historical home here in Rockford. In the late 80s and early 90s I spent a lot of time there. I started as a docent, did a short stint on the board (being a board member is not my cup of tea), and was then trained to clean historic homes and for years crawled around in places the general public are not allowed to enjoy. I even mucked out the fish pond. ick.
The cottage has a little bit of history with my family. When my parents first moved to Rockford they moved into an apartment across the street from the then dilapidated cottage and my siblings remember playing there as kids. It isn't in the best part of town, but it's worth the trip to the west side to see the amazing job that's been done restoring the place.
During the years that I was there I experienced several...more than several...episodes of unexplained activity. Frequently, when I KNEW there was no one upstairs, we would hear movement, doors opening, I even heard singing. My friend Dorene, who cleaned with me, and I decided that it was Jessie, one of the ladies that once lived in the home, and I began talking to her when I was cleaning. If there was a spirit occupation I figured it was wise to make nice with them. I think Dorene once even saw something etheral float down the stair case. We used to joke about it all the time...going to "Jessie's House" for a visit. No one ever believed us.
SO, Oct 24th at 8pm cst Ghost Hunters will air a show they filmed there over the summer months where they reportedly found evidence of spirit activity in the home. Hah! I am vindicated! Really looking forward to seeing the episode and hear what they found. Spooky. :-)
I used to live with a ghost. Never saw her, but my roommate did. Funny thing is we lived in that apartment for two years and never mentioned the ghost to each other until after we moved out (happend to be having dinner with mutual friends around Halloween). My friends were skeptical and then we both described what the ghost looked like. Even though I had never seen her, I knew what she looked like.
Spooky.
