I aM bEinG hELd cAPtiVe by SUMMER. Please send ice.
Yesterday AH and I drove into Schaumburg for a much needed escape from being closed up in this house. The drive in had us racing some insanely beautiful storm clouds, but the drive home....ick. The bright white of the sky was almost offensive. If I could pitch one season to the curb it would be Summer. But enough whining...on to Random Monday.
Craftiness: If you recall, last week I posted a few nifty right-brain projects and I got busy with one beaded bracelet.
It was much more time consuming than I expected, but lots of fun. I see many more of these in my future. OH...and it's super comfortable to wear. I almost forget it's there.
Movies: Last week we saw "Abraham Lincoln; Vampire Hunter". I didn't have very high expectations for this one, except some good vampire fun, and it lived up to that and more. Having lived in Illinois all my life, Lincoln has always been a larger than life figure in my education and he certainly was in the film. (tongue in cheek) There was some Matrix coat-swirling action and particularly good scene on a train. If you are a Breakout Kings fan, my favorite convict, Lloyd (Jimmi Simpson), has a large role in this film.
Yesterday we drove into the western suburbs for a Portillos lunch (honestly, I haven't eaten anything that tasted that good in months) and to see "Safety Not Guaranteed". I loved it. Loved. It. It's about what lies beneath the faces we give the world. What is honest and what we pass over because it might not fit into our view. A lovely, quirky little film that I'm glad I had the chance to experience.
TV: HBO has a new series, The Newsroom, and I'm hooked. 2 episodes and I'm fascinated. First episode Jeff Daniels character gives this sort of melt-down speech and I wanted to get up and cheer. Maybe write it on the wall to help keep a perspective on who we are as Americans. Really intelligent writing and a view into a world that used to be stellar and trusted and now consistently gives Jon Stewart enough hilarious material to produce a daily show. (See what I did there? :-) )
Books: Just finished Big Stone Gap, which I loved. Each character a little slice of interesting. Started The Orchid House on Friday and it drew me in right away. Counting the days... 8!...until Shadow of Night is released! I have a copy of Discovery of Witches that I am willing to share if anyone wants to get caught up before reading Shadow.
I have new glasses:
...and I kind of love them. Trying to take pictures of ones self is crazy and probably better accomplished after a couple of glasses of wine. Every picture I looked at was an opportunity for shocking criticism. "What? What are my lips doing? Do I always look this pissed off? Maybe 'less than amused' is my default face. That's not good. Let's blame gravity!" and so on.
But anyway, I like how they look on me and I like that I can see better. Can't beat that!
And finally, all the cats got a summer haircut last week. Hee, hee. It's ok to laugh.
Frank finds no humor in the situation at all.
That's it for this Monday. Here's hoping that your world is filled with functional a/c and lots of cool drinks. Be safe out there.
Pics of those cats made my day
