One of the best things about knitting is that no matter what your skill level is (and mine is nothing to get excited about) there is something new to learn. My LYS offers a Creative Knit class where you can come in, weekly if you like and I do, with something you're working on and get help from an experienced teacher. That teacher is my good friend and knitting guru, Nancy, so I usually go once a week to knit and visit with friends. A couple of hours of mental health time. Yesterday I decided that I needed to pick a project to take on our trip to Minnesota (16 days and counting) and wanted to stretch my skills a bit. Behold the
humble beginnings of Lady Eleanor (Ravelry page found here). The pattern can be found in the Scarf Style book. Entrelac, my friends, and let me tell you that I love it, love it, love it. I even learned to knit backwards. Video on how to do that here. I'm using Silk Garden color number 213 that I've had in my stash for awhile.
For some reason I had always avoided entrelac, but I guess all things in their time, cause right now I am completely enthralled by the construction of this woven look fabric. It is not difficult at all, just follow the instructions and don't ask why. Learning to knit backward saves you all the turning and isn't difficult to learn. I could easily forget there is anything else going on in the world and just knit away.
I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
