I promise that I will not make you endure a day-by-day update on Lady Eleanor, but the difference between yesterday and today is remarkable and I am even more in love with entrelac. Each little rectangle is more fun than the one before. At first I wasn't sure about the colorway of the yarn, but now that the blues and violets are showing up I think this piece will be a stunner when completed. Yay!
Switching gears...since I have left the yarn shop I've been picking up some unexpected sewing jobs. I've found that I actually enjoy this sort of thing quite a lot. Each new job is a challenge and to be honest, it pays a lot better than selling yarn, but that's a whole other story.
One tool that I could not live without is my surgical seam ripper. I've had seam rippers before, you know the kind...little round handle, small plastic bead on the top to keep you from drawing blood. They come in every sewing kit or with most machines. This guy puts them all to shame. It's slim, though VERY sharp blade rips through anything cleanly without pulling on the fabric. It does, however, cut fabric so you must be very careful when you rip to have it in the correct place, but I honestly don't know how I sewed without it. In the last week I've hemmed jeans, wool trousers, khaki pants, and lined drapes; for each project this ripper made the job much easier. I imagine you can get them pretty much anywhere, though I got mine at Nancy's Notions. A word of caution though, it cuts skin, too. I don't think that I've every sewn anything that I didn't bleed for just a little (pins get me every time) but this guy can do serious damage so take care.
Enjoy the weekend!
Wow, weapons and knitting, Holly?! ;)
I've always wanted to make a Lady Eleanor - they are so beautiful!
