The Red Wheelbarrow

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

 

If you enjoy poetry I highly recommend a little book entitled, Love That Dog.  I can't tell you how much I love this book.  An award winning book, written for children by a wonderful author, it opens the world of poetry in way I have never experienced before.  It takes poetry down to it's most basic level and illuminates it in a way that will touch your heart.  It's a half hour read at most....what have you got to lose?

LOVE the painting... (the poem didn't do that much for me!!) And will definitely look for Sharon Creech's volume. Her novels are great. Do you have Keillor's "Good Poems? or the Poem a Day volumes? I might start posting poems on TUESDAYs.. as sort of a call and response. Hmm. Depends on whether I get my knitting straightened out this evening.

I just reread Love That Dog for Children's Lit and it was even better the 2nd time. It should be required reading and teaching for all beginning poetry classes. Imagine how many kids would grow up liking poetry instead of dreading it like I used to!
