The entrance to the vegetable garden is always beautiful this time of year. The morning glories have grown up to cover the entire arch and as the sun rises they open their purples faces to create an amazing display. The summer has turned out to be busier than usual and still the garden looks wonderful despite our neglect. (If you don't look too close at the occasional weed.)
We have given up trying to make the grass look like anything other than a fire waiting to happen. The veg garden gets a daily water and the flower gardens get a drink several times a week. All hail the trailing sprinkler! We set it up on one side of the garden and it walks all the way around to the other side. Next year we are investing in soaker hoses for all the gardens, which I understand is a much more affective way to water.
Even though there are still many lovely things blooming in the gardens I have to admit that I am counting the days until Fall. Cooler days will be much appreciated.
Amazing Husband has spent the last two Sunday afternoons (and from the looks of the garden, many more to come) preparing tomato sauce to put in the freezer. Using our own tomatos in the dead of winter is such a joy. Actually, there is very little about gardening that isn't a joy. Every day there is something new to see and appreciate.
Can you see the little bee legs inside this foxglove blossom? The bees are such good garden buddies. I love watching them buzz from flower to flower. Sometimes their legs are so heavy with pollen that I'm surprised they can stay airborne.
Hope today begins a good week for each one of you. I saw a school bus drive by a little while ago. I think the driver was learning her new route. Busy days ahead as we bid goodbye to summer.
The MG's are, well, glorious! Don't worry about the grass...it's a waste of water. It just goes dormant and will spring back to life with the first rain. And, you're right...soakers are the way to go!
