100 things about me

*let me say that I cannot for the life of me think why anyone would actually want to read 100 things about me. I, however, very much enjoy reading about everyone else so it seems only fair that I give it a try.

1. I was born the day after Christmas.
2. This pretty much sucks. (Though I do not blame my mother……often.)
3. At age 17, I gave birth to a seriously handicapped daughter; Jessica.
4. At age 18 her father bailed due to his inability to deal with Jessica and all her health issues.
5. At age 25 I gave birth to my son Karl and at 27 gave birth to my daughter Kysa who are wonder children and completely healthy. I’m still surprised that I had the courage to have more children after Jessica.
6. At age 40 their father bailed because he needed more from his life.
7. I met Amazing Husband on the internet. Really, it’s true! J
8. He moved to Illinois from L.A. to be with the kids and I.
9. I will never stop being overwhelmingly humbled by that.
10. We married Dec. 29, 2000 in Door County, WI.
11. Being married to Amazing Husband is the miracle that I waited for all my life. I know, it sounds totally fairy tale gushy, but it’s true.
12. I used to sing in three choirs.
13. I’m an alto.
14. I used to sing with a small folk band.
15. For me, singing….finding that lovely harmonic place, is like flying.
16. I took piano lessons as a child. I don’t play very well, but my piano teacher was a angel.
17. I play a 39 string folk harp. I don’t play very well, but my harp teacher was completely insane.
18. Music in my life made me a better person, and many times, kept me from going crazy.
19. I’m introverted, but in a good way. J I’m shy in new surroundings or around new people.
20. I have a sister that is 16 years older than I am.
21. I have a brother that is 13 years older than I am.
22. I was a mistake. (It’s ok. It wasn’t my fault.)
23. Both siblings had moved out by the time I was 5. I grew up as an only child.
24. I spent all my childhood summers on a lake in Northern Wisconsin. My parents later retired there.
25. When my parents became too old to care for the lake property they had to sell it.
26. I will grieve the loss of that property and the opportunity to spend time there until the day I die.
27. Sometimes I still dream of being there. I remember exactly how it looked and smelled and how the breeze felt against my face.
28. My brother was a Seabee in the Navy and served in Viet Nam.
29. My sister is a talented quilter.
30. They both still think I’m 5.
31. I have never smoked.
32. My father was an alcoholic.
33. I really like strawberry margaritas.
34. If I drink more than one I go right to sleep.
35. I am a very bad sleeper.
36. I love shoes.
37. Flip flops, Birkenstocks, crocs, Doc Martens, fun, funky, colorful or black. No heels.
38. I love mittens, even the ones I make myself.
39. Socks, too. Especially the ones I make myself.
40. I like makeup, but almost never wear it.
41. My toenails are always painted a wild and crazy color. Even in the winter.
42. I drink a lot of coke. I’m probably addicted. I can live with that.
43. I love libraries.
44. I used to work in one.
45. My bosses were spawns of Satan.
46. I quit.
47. I am a liberal.
48. I believe in peace.
49. I am crazy about Oprah. Never miss a show. My computer works like TIVO and records them for me.
50. I like reality TV.
51. I enjoy science fiction in all forms. Love the SciFi channel! (except when the do all the hokey horror stuff.)
52. My eyes are green.
53. I wear my hair long. When I quit my job we needed to find ways to save moola and not getting a haircut seemed like a good idea. Now I’m growing it to donate to Locks of Love.
54. My husband’s hair is longer than mine. J
55. I respect animals of all kinds.
56. I was traumatized early in life when my mother took me to see Bambi. When his mother died in the fire I got so upset she had to take me out.
57. I won’t go to animal movies anymore.
58. I like happy endings.
59. If I don’t have something to read all the time I get nervous.
60. I’ll read anything.
61. I love going to movies.
62. I’ve lived in the same area all my life; in the same house for the past 25 years.
63. Someday I want to move somewhere new.
64. I want to travel everywhere.
65. I am fascinated by Africa and heart sick for its people.
66. I think The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver was the most important book of my reading life. It completely opened my mind.
67. I’m very fond of dragons and dragonflies.
68. I dislike talking on the phone, the ringing of the phone (ESPECIALLY cell phones) having dinner or conversations interrupted by the phone, listening to people talk on the phone in public places, etc., etc. Basically, I am not a fan of the telephone, but do understand the need for it.
69. I don’t have a favorite color or animal.
70. My favorite musical instrument is the cello.
71. I really like teenagers, but think youth is generally wasted on them.
72. I’m not afraid of snakes
73. or spiders.
74. I am afraid of the dark.
75. I believe in a God.
76. I don’t believe that there is only one true religion or spiritual practice.
77. I think too much.
78. I’m fascinated by other languages and forms of communication.
79. I wish I spoke Italian.
80. I tend to be a serious person and really enjoy people who aren’t.
81. I love green and growing things, even weeds and especially dandelions.
82. My former next door neighbor really hated me for that.
83. I often entertain the idea of homesteading and living as independently as possible.
84. We have 3 dogs and 3 cats. I’d love to live on a farm where we could rescue more dogs and have sheep and llamas and alpacas and chickens.
85. I love water. Ocean, lake, river, any water.
86. I feel most at home in a forest.
87. This makes Cambria, CA the perfect place for me to live.
88. Except that the cost of living there is obscene.
89. But they do have a yarn store!
90. I was once a docent at a historic home.
91. My dream job is being a docent at Hearst Castle.
92. I never went to college, but I haven’t given up on it yet.
93. I think I might want to be an art history major.
94. There are so many things that I still want to do and experience.
95. Most importantly I want to learn to be comfortable with myself.
96. I knit, sew, spin, weave and could get excited about any other fiber related art or craft.
97. I don’t consider myself accomplished at any of those things.
98. I have a great deal to be grateful for.
99. I have a deep an enduring burden for this planet and its people.
100. Enough already! If you’ve read down this far you deserve a medal!

I loved this site. You did a great job keeping it light and fun and I think the part about your old bosses is down right hilarious. It was very entertaining. I love the pictures of your babies. I also love the purses and mittens that you made they are great!
